"Tube Expander" Tube Expansion Tools Q&A

Q1. What kinds of tube expansion method are there?

There are many types of tube expansion method including those that use explosives and others that use steel balls. There are three main types of methods.
Among these methods, tube expansion that is done using a Tube Expander (Setter) is superior in terms of safety, precision, and cost. This is the most general method for tube expansion.

  1. The hydraulic tube expansion method is a method of expansion that utilizes an even pressure from the inside of a tube by applying a fluid pressure (usually water) via a special fluid bag to the inside of the expansion tube.
  2. The elastic tube expansion method utilizes a special rubber component as a means to expand tubes. Compression is applied to the rubber component in the axial direction, providing the rubber component with an even expanding force in the radial direction, which expands the tube.
  3. The expander method (Tube Expander) of tube expansion is performed by pushing and expanding tubes that have been inserted in the holes of the tube sheet, from the inside, thus closely fitting tubes to the tube sheet.

Q2. What are the features of Sugino's Tube Expanders?

Sugino Machine has been manufacturing and selling its Tube Expanders (Setters) since 1937. Our long history enables us to cultivate our know-how in manufacturing long-lasting tools and consumable parts.
We also have a rich lineup of various accessories and tube expansion devices and have employed a full range of strategies in developing products that support tube expansion.

Q3. What types of Tube Expander are available?

We have a diverse lineup of Tube Expanders (Setters) that meet the needs of various tube and tube sheet configurations, such as 5-roller specifications for thin tubes and those for double tube sheet.
We have also developed other types of tube expanders including a high-speed type that makes it possible to reduce tube expansion time by increasing the feed angle.
