"Multi-axis Drill Head & Tapper Head" Q&A

Multi-axis Q&A

Q1. Who are the manufacturers of tool holders installable on the adjustable spindle nose?

In addition to Bilz 16 and 20, which are listed in the catalog, we produce multi-axis heads for spindle nose according to the specifications of 20 manufacturers, including NT Tool, Kuroda Precision Industries, and Fuji Bellows.

Q2. How is the retention mechanism of a tap structured?

The Sugino standard tap retention mechanism uses radial floating and a holder with an axial extension mechanism instead of a rigid system.
With this retention mechanism, high precision tapping is possible because it smoothly follows the misalignment of prepared holes and errors that occur when switching between unit normal and reverse rotation.

Regarding the amount of radial floating, refer to the catalog of drill heads and tapper heads.

Because the adjustable spindle nose employs a rigid system, a radial floating holder or a holder with an axial extension mechanism is recommended as the tap holder.

Q3. Can left-hand screws be processed?

Although the Synchro Tapper is designed for right-hand screws, left-hand screw processing can be performed by installing reverse rotation heads dedicated for left-hand screw processing.

Q4. Can different size screws be processed at the same time by one multi-axis head?

When the screw pitches do not match, such as in the case of M3 pitch 0.5, M4 pitch 0.7, and M6 pitch 1.0, it is possible to align the tap forward speed of each axis with the multi-head forward speed by changing the rotation rate of the spindle axis according to the pitch of each screw.

Even if the screw size varies, multi-axis heads are manufactured in accordance with the screw size.

Q5. Can multi-axis heads installed on non-Sugino drills and tap units be manufactured?

We will accept your order once we confirm the specifications of the machine on which you are to install your Sugino Machine drill or tap unit and the specifications of processed products (multi-axis arrangement and processing details). We also manufacture MC multi-axis heads for BT40 and later models as well as multi-axis heads for drilling presses and drilling and tapping units from other manufacturers.
