Self-Center SC-V30a : #30 Vertical Compact Machining Center

SELF-CENTER SC-V30a
In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for large aluminum components integrating multiple units, exemplified by EV-related parts. There’s also a need for flexibility to adapt to shorter product cycles. In response to these needs, we have developed the “SELF-CENTER SC-V30a,” a vertical machining center with #30 spindle taper and high productivity and versatility.
Background of Development
Our “SELF-CENTER” product was launched in 1986, featuring a diverse range of machine configurations from vertical and horizontal to table-moving and column-moving types.
With the concept of “Small machines for small parts,” we have been designing and manufacturing the “SELF-CENTER” series to meet our customers’ needs optimally.

In the development process, we thoroughly reviewed the basic structure of each unit from scratch, aiming to achieve both downsizing with increased versatility and enhanced machine rigidity enabling high-speed movement. By reconciling these conflicting objectives, we significantly reduced non-cutting time and enabled high-speed rotation and high-speed cutting.
As a result, we achieve improved productivity and high operational efficiency for our customers. This allows us to reduce power consumption and CO2 emissions per hour by approximately 30%.
By enhancing productivity and achieving high operational efficiency, we contribute to achieving carbon neutrality.

Proposal for productivity improvement with SC-V30a
1.Long-Slim
Within a machine width of 1,440mm, machining strokes of X-axis 700mm and Y-axis 500mm are achieved.
The installation space is equivalent to a #30MC, while the machining area is comparable to a #40MC.
Additionally, when equipped with an A-axis rotary table, it supports a standard swing diameter of φ500.
It accommodates large workpieces or multiple workpieces, improving productivity per unit of floor space.
2.High-speed – High-rigidity
By reducing the distance from the spindle center to the sliding surface to one-third of the previous length, high rigidity is achieved.
Through thorough FEM analysis, the moving parts are lightweight while maintaining rigidity. This reduces non-cutting time and improves productivity.
It can support a wide range of workpieces, including aluminum, iron, and brittle materials.
3.Thorough chip control
Most instances of machining inaccuracies and interruptions in automated equipment are primarily caused by chips.”
Ensuring reliable chip discharge and removal prevents troubles and improves productivity.
(1) Tool magazine and feed axes are completely separated from the machining area to prevent issues caused by chips.
(2) Despite being a vertical machining center, a center trough bed structure is adopted to double the chip discharge capability compared to conventional machines.
(3) Eliminating wiring and piping inside the machining area resolves wire breakage issues caused by ferrous metal chips.
