Enhancing the Workplace Environment
Approaches to Creating a Workplace that is Easy to Work In
Sugino Machine Group aims to create an environment where all employees can fully utilize their abilities by enhancing the employment environment, and strives to become a company where the next generation can be nurtured and women can play an active role. To achieve this goal, we have formulated an action plan in accordance with the Act on Promotion of Women’s Participation and Advancement in the Workplace, and will promote the realization of a conducive work environment based on this action plan.
Diversity & Inclusion
As a company aiming to expand its business globally, we require not only global talent but initiatives towards cultural diversity as well. Diversity management plays an important role in providing the values that are sought by society from a global perspective.
To expand our operational footprint into growth markets worldwide and establish deeply rooted business operations in each country and region, it is essential to appoint personnel who are well-versed in the culture and language of those countries and regions. Furthermore, to adapt to changes in the business environment and diverse values, we respect individual personalities and promote the integration of diverse talents into our collective strength.
Human Resources Development
The human resource development goal at Sugino Machine is to nurture workers who can “think and act independently”. The business environment is constantly changing in line with the globalization and diversification of customer needs, as well as the adoption of new technologies. In such an environment, it is necessary to develop professionals who not only have a high level of specialized knowledge but are also able to look at things from multiple perspectives, analyze them, and respond flexibly.
Besides on-the-job training that teaches specialized skills through actual work, we also have a system of training courses at different levels for specialized training, career development, skill development and management training. Many employees also choose to study languages or take correspondence courses on their own to acquire more specialized knowledge, or simply to increase their knowledge and improve themselves.

Skill Mentoring
To produce customized products that meet customer demands, each component’s machining precision is crucial to quality, requiring advanced technical expertise. At our company, we’ve established a ‘Takumi System’ to recognize employees with exceptional skills and technical capabilities. Employees certified as ‘Takumi’ through the Skill Mentoring Committee ensure the steady transfer of skills to younger generations, preserving the expertise of skilled artisans for the future.

Self-development support program
In Sugino Machine’s general incorporated association, Sanyuukai, which focuses on employee welfare and self-development, they have introduced a subsidy program called “Free Plan.” This program supports initiatives related to employees’ self-development, such as purchasing books, paying exam fees for certifications, and covering up to 50% of expenses for exhibition visits, museum entries, with a maximum limit of ¥20,000 per year. Over 300 employees utilize this program annually.
Safety and Health Activities
Based on our management policy, we have positioned “safety” as one of the most critical management priorities from early on, and have been actively engaged in activities such as hazard prediction, promoting safety measures in facilities towards the elimination of workplace accidents, and establishing a system for safety and health education. Ensuring the safety and health of employees is the essential for the company’s sustainability and a social responsibility. In recognition of this, in 2018, we reaffirmed and established the “Sugino Machine Safety and Health Basic Principles and Policies.” With the goal of zero workplace accidents, the Sugino Machine Group is united in advancing safety and health initiatives.

Security and disaster training
Sugino Machine Group conducts annual disaster preparedness drills at each of its facilities, preparing for disasters such as earthquakes and fires. Each facility also maintains a self-defense firefighting team and submits disaster prevention plans to the local fire department.

Health maintenance and promotion
Sugino Machine aims for a 100% attendance rate for regular health check-ups. In the fiscal year 2022, the attendance rate achieved the target of 100%. We conduct health guidance and encourage attendance for employees who require secondary screenings, contributing to improved attendance rates. Additionally, we conduct screenings for conditions such as gastric, colorectal cancer, PSA, and gynecological examinations, even for items not legally mandated, to aid in early cancer detection.
Regarding mental health care, we conduct stress checks annually to analyze group results and utilize them to improve the workplace environment. To ensure employees experiencing mental or physical discomfort can easily seek help, we’ve established a 24/7 telephone counseling service. This service provides support for inquiries related to health, medical care, caregiving, childcare, mental health, and information about medical institutions. Additionally, for managers and above, there’s a dedicated telephone consultation service (weekdays 10:00-16:00) where they can discuss how to support employees experiencing mental and physical health issues and receive expert opinions.
Information regarding physical care and mental health care (self-care, line-care) is shared via our intranet, aiming to enhance understanding among employees.
